Greek honey rolls

Diples

Ingredients

  • 5 eggs
  • 1 coffee cup fresh butter
  • 1 coffee cup brandy
  • few drops lemon
  • all-purpose flour

for the syrup

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • chopped walnuts for decoration

Method

  1. In a large bowl add the eggs, the butter, the cognac, the drops of lemon and as much flour as needed to make a little tough dough.
  2. Cut the dough into pieces and roll out a big sheet, cut into square pieces and form a bow in each square piece of dough.
  3. In a deep pan, add enough vegetable oil and fry the diples (1′ on each side).
  4. Leave them in a strainer to remove the excess oil and cool.
  5. In a saucepan add the ingredients for the syrup and boil for a while.
  6. Dip the cold diples for about 1′.
  7. Place them on a platter and in each layer, add a little syrup on top and grated walnuts.
