Oregano is a herbaceous perennial herb, with not flexible woody trunk, its leaves are gray fluffy egg-shaped, with small purple flowers on top and reaches about 50cm in height.
Oregano is resistant to cold and grows at up to 1500m altitudes, especially in the Mediterranean and Central Asia.
The collection of oregano is at flowering age, roughly June to September and then drying in places without sun.
Oregano is used mainly for cooking. Used either fresh or dried. It fits particularly at meals that containing tomato, but also in omelettes, fish, meat, potatoes, beans and of course the country salad!
Oregano besides cooking is also used in medicine:
As a drink frees from convulsions and hiccup, facilitates digestion and whet the appetite, increases urination and stimulates the uterus.
As an essential oil (riganolado) is used for pains in the teeth, but also externally to kill lice.
