Basic pizza dough

Vasiki zymi gia pitsa

Pizza is a food consisting of baked dough, and a mixture of vegetables or cold cuts. There are two main types of pizza, Italian and Canadian. Italian pizza has a thin dough and usually a limited number of ingredients per pizza (more specifically it depends on the imagination of the cook) and is individual. Canadian has a thicker dough and usually has a lot of ingredients on it. Canadian is usually available in three sizes: individual, family (or medium) and giant.

Ingredients

  • 500 gr. all-purpose flour
  • 400 ml of slightly lukewarm water (be careful not to overheat)
  • 1 sachets of dry yeast (=8 gr.)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil

Method

  1. In a large bowl add all the solid ingredients and mix well.
  2. Make a hole in the middle, pour all the water, the olive oil and knead until the mixture is not sticking to your hands.
  3. Use some more flour if needed (if it still sticks to your hands).
  4. Cover it with a towel  and leave it in a warm place for 1 hour to rest.
  5. Into a baking pan place baking paper (grease it a little bit if you want) and then add the dough and cover with your hands all the surface of the pan.
  6. Bake the dough for about 10′ to a preheated oven at 180oC.
  7. Then add your ingredients you want and bake for more time (usually for 10 minutes – it depends on the ingredients)
