Ingredients

for the dough

  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 cup olive oil

for the filling

  • 2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon (powder)
  • 1/2 tablespoon cloves (powder)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

for the syrup

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Method

  1. In a bowl mix all the ingredients of the filling.
  2. In a large bowl, sift the flour.
  3. Add the salt and the baking powder and make a hole in the middle.
  4. Add there the rest of the dough ingredients and mix gently until the materials homogenized and make a soft dough.
  5. Divide the dough into 4 pieces and then each piece into 8 balls.
  6. Roll one of the little balls and add in the middle 1 teaspoon of filling and fold to form a triangle.
  7. Bake in preheated oven at 180oC for 35′-45′ until golden brown.
  8. Leave them to cool and make some holes in the surface with a thick needle.
  9. In a saucepan add the ingredients for the syrup and boil them for 6′.
  10. Reduce heat and add in 3-4 içli and boil them for 3 minutes.
  11. Place them on a platter and cover with plastic wrap so they do not dry out.
Tips:

If the syrup is not enough after 3-4 times, add a little water, let the mixture boil for 5 minutes and continue the process.
