Paradosiako spetzofai

Spetsofai (or spencofai or spetsofai) is a traditional, spicy dish of Italian and Greek cuisine from fried sausages with pepper and tomato sauce. Characteristic are the long, sweet peppers and the intense flavors of the village sausages, which usually. Pelion spetzofai and spetzofai with giant beans are known in Greece.

Ingredients

  • 1 sausages
  • 2 dry onions
  • 5 green horn peppers
  • 2 red Florina peppers
  • 1 green chili pepper (optional if you want extra spicy taste)
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (dissolve in 200ml water)
  • 100ml tomato juice
  • olive oil
  • salt, pepper, sweet paprika

Method

  1. Clean from seeds and wash horn peppers and Florina peppers.
  2. Cut them lengthwise into 3-4 pieces.
  3. Cut dry onions in thick stips.
  4. Chop the chili pepper (if you want to add it).
  5. Cut the sausages into slices.
  6. In a deep-wide frying pan add olive oil to heat well and gently fry the sausages.
  7. Remove them and keep them in a dish.
  8. Saute onions and chili pepper, add the peppers and keep saute for 1′-2′, stirring carefully.
  9. Add the sausage.
  10. Add the tomato juice, the dissolved tomato paste and stir.
  11. Add salt, pepper and paprika.
  12. Leave to boil in low heat without stirring!
  13. When sause thickens, turn off the heat and serve!
Tips:

If you don’t have horn peppers or Florina peppers, you can use colourful bell peppers.

Serve with rice.
